With the fenders out of the way, it's down to the home stretch on the larger parts.... just need to knock out the transmission crossmember and the transmission and the rest will be small stuff that can be blasted in the blast cabinet. I got the transmission mounted onto my red engine stand so I wouldn't have to wrestle the thing around in the booth and to allow me to spin it to get all areas clean.
You could then say the day got suckie day...... spent 2 1/2 hours vacuuming up 100lbs of the old sand and carrying it out to the dumpster... WHEW!! I then filled the blast hopper with new fine grit Black Beauty, doned my blast garb and got after it. I was able to knock the crossmember out in a half hour...
and the transmission in about an hour and twenty minutes.
FINALLY, all the large pieces are blasted!
Now I need to find some high pull, peel and stick magnetic strips to mount the interior blast cabinet lights and it will be ready to go! So looking forward to being able to sit down in normal clothes and blasting all the other bits and pieces that need shot without bundling up like an arctic explorer!
Brought home the stand mounted bench grinder along with my sway bars, strut rods and lower rear control arms to get them cleaned this week and ready for paint...
I bought a new brass wire wheel for the grinder since the old wheel was just about shot. More fun on the way!
