July 31 2022 update

Well as the month of July closes out, more progress has been made on the ole girl.

I finished creating the sleeves for the power lock actuators and got them wrapped up....






















and dropped off all the door interior parts and glass to the guys at the body shop.

When I was there dropping off the door bits, they had finished blocking and priming the exterior surface of the doors.....




























shot a first coat of red on the hinge posts....






















and had started blocking and priming the driver front fender.









I stopped in again mid-week were they had primed the interior face of the passenger door.....



















and had stripped the paint from the driver door in preparation for primer.


















The weekend of the 16th I popped in again and they had both doors primed and ready to hang....

























and had started working the passenger side fender.














Stopped in on Monday the 25th and they had both fenders worked and primed both side and ready to hang once the doors are hung, assembled and adjusted....


























Will need to add the trim and emblem holes to the driver side fender before the color gets applied.

This past weekend, July 30th run by and they had hung both doors!!















Bill said they will shoot the inside of the doors with Lizardskin and once it's dry, they'll install the inside pieces of the doors and get them adjusted. Once that's completed, they'll work the top of the cowl, lower portions of the A pillars and then mask off the areas of the firewall and cowl sides that stay black and shoot it with a coat of 2B red before hanging the front fenders.

They are kicking ass on this project and I'd bet she'll be wearing her colors by the end of August... FINGERS CROSSED!!

July 10, 2022 Update

WOW, time sure flies.... been over a month since my last update and there has been a bit more progress made on the ole girl!

The passenger door is ready to rehang....












and when I was in on June 29th, they had started on the driver's door....














Got a text this past Thursday (07/07/22) asking me to drop off the 2B Red so they could shoot the hinges and the hinge posts prior to rehanging the doors to work the gaps, alignment and blocking, so I dropped the paint off on Saturday morning. I got there before they did, so I left it under their vehicle shed and asked them to send me a few pics of the driver's door blocked and primed before it got hung.









I've been a bit busy myself getting all the door innards cleaned, rebuilt and reassembled. Got the door latch assemblies figured out how the power lock mechanisms integrated into the mix and reassembled with NOS latches....














and got the window lift guides.....









and power lift arms....









cleaned and ready to reinstall. Asked the shop if they wanted me to go ahead and grease everything up but they asked me not to so it would be cleaner for them during assembly. Said they would grease everything up really well after final assembly.

Also I have been working on the power door lock actuators. From the factory, the actuators were protected from water by a thin rubber cover....










but after almost 50 years, it had turned into mush or shredded, so I needed to figure out a new solution. I asked the guys on the Torino forum if the cover was actually necessary and I learned that if the motor gets wet, it's days are numbered, so I needed to figure out a solution. Since it was only the motor that needed to be protected, I needed to just cover that rather than the entire assembly, so I came up with a simple fix.... a bike inner tube cut and folded over to create a sleeve to fit over the motor. I stopped at a local bike shop to purchase a tube the correct diameter to fit snugly over the motor and as luck would have it, they had just replaced a tube for a customer and had exactly what I needed in the trash, so they gave it to me. GOTTA LOVE A FREE SOLUTIONS!












Now I just need to cut them to length, glue the top edges together, fold over the top and glue the flap down and also maybe roll the bottom edge over and glue it to for a cuff to give the sleeve opening a bit more strength. I'll post pics of that process later.

I'll drop off all the door glass and innards to the bodyshop later next week so they'll have it all when they get ready to reassemble the doors so they are weighted properly.

She slowly coming together now!
