details... part 23A

While I took the week off between Christmas and New Year's, I didn't get as much done as I had hoped to in getting the Tomato moved closer to the point of return to the crew at F3. However I did experience a severe learning curve at my first attempt at painting (the insides of) a car. What I guestimated would take me a day to do ended up taking all week because I really had not idea what the hell I was doing!

To back up a bit, the Saturday after Christmas I got the dust shields and caliper brackets mounted to the spindles....

the muffler and tail pipe hangers reinstalled...

and the rotors masked off and painted.

On Monday, I unmasked the rotors...

painted the calipers...

installed the new rubber bumper above the lift finger on the jack assembly...

installed the power brake booster firewall bellows...

and got the transmission crossmember painted...

I had a few excess cans of Eastwood Underhood Black aerosol and decided to use them for the first coat inside the trunk and interior before breaking out the spray gun. So the first thing I did on Tuesday morning was to mask off all the openings in the firewall and floor from the outside and then tacked the trunk and interior...

shot the shifter hump location on the driveshaft tunnel with the underhood black...

then hit the trunk with the first coat...

before installing the shifter hump and shooting the inside of the firewall and floor transition.....

With the spray bombs exhausted, it was time to break out the spray gun! I'll save THAT fiasco for our next installment....

Stay tuned!

More baby steps today... passenger side parking brake cable secured, transmission wrapped awaiting install...

master cylinder rehung onto power booster waiting for assembly...

rotors cleaned and ready for painting (rear drums also painted and waiting)...

    fuel door disassembled and blasted...

and got started cleaning and prepping the interior for priming (package shelf now ready ready). Sadly the weather has taken a turn for colder temps, but hopefully it will stay warm enough to get the trunk and interior wrapped up over the next couple weeks so I can stay on track.

    Stay tuned...

Well not a lot to show for the past two weeks labor, but here are a few of the areas I've been working on and finishing up.....

Got the transmission all buttoned up and awaiting installation (GearVendors OD will come later)....

Stainless steel pedal trim all polished up, reattached to rubber pads and wrapped up awaiting installation....

Finished dressing down the excess filler/sealer at driver side rear wheelhouse and trunk drop off....

and vacuumed out the trunk and interior cabin....

in preparation to start the daunting task of prepping everything with the DA to get ready for applying the final coat of black to the inside of the body!

She is slowly coming together....

Don't touch that dial!!

Suspension assembly.... part 9

A productive LONG weekend! I got the front sway bar installed...

followed by the frame reinforcements...

ground some of the excessive flash off the transmission...

and applied the first coat of aluminum paint...

I got the trunk torsion rods removed...

To assist in the rod removal, I looped and threaded a length of #16ga wire to the end of the rod finger...

and wrapped the two wire leads around my hand and lifted the finger out and away from the bracket and down to relieve the rod pressure. EASY PIESIE!!

I also blasted, wire wheeled and painted a few items before starting to dress out the driver side trunk drop off...

She's slowly coming back together.

Stay tuned, there's more to come!
